Social Order

The Avyloci society is mainly a peaceful one, in the sense that, they're constantly fighting a battle with the Rasharrn in order to survive, so any conflict amongst themselves is considered unnecessary and to be avoided if at all possible.  They live in seven tribes of roughly two hundred Avyloci, however, there is no rivalry between tribes and individuals will often travel between tribes as they feel the need. Avyloci bond closely within their tribe as well as with others and the communities are usually tight-knit.

They are hierarchical by nature and have several set positions within their society. Despite this, all the ranks are treated with considerable equality.

Elders

The elders of the tribe are highly valued for their wisdom. Often it is the elders who teach the Avyloci children and they're much loved by everyone. The Eldest as they're known, is the oldest Avyloci in the tribe. They're the most highly respected and the Leaders will often go to them for advice. The elders and specifically The Eldest, are the ones who settle conflicts within the tribe.

The elders often view other Avyloci as children so to them, conflicts are always over silly matters and therefore most are settled easily and without bias. Once the Elders have come to an opinion on a conflict, it is accepted by everyone else without question. It is sometimes said that becoming an elder gives you magical abilities. This has never been proven, of course, but the elder's ability to keep the peace within the tribe, to sense lies and keep things in order is often considered magical in itself.

The Elders are also said to have a strong connection to the Ancestors and Heros of old and thus gain many abilities. Again, this is pure speculation, but the Elders seem to enjoy the wide eyed looks the children give them because of this.

Leaders

The leaders are chosen by the tribe and then approved by the elders, either when the old Leader dies or the current leader joins the Elders. The Leader is the one who manages the tribe and ensures food is distributed evenly amongst everyone. They're highly respected but will often go the Elders for advice and guidance on decisions.  The Leader's mate is often considered a Leader as well, however the true Leader always gets the final say in decisions. If the Leader is killed than the mate will usually take charge after getting approval from the tribe and the elders.

Healers

The Healers are a very select group. Every two years the eldest healers choose one young Avyloci at the age of five years old, and take them in to teach them the art of healing. Avyloci are exceptional at healing as their planet has an abundant amount of different plants with many different uses.  The Healers are often very guarded and do not share the secret of their art with any whom aren't one of them. This is because, while the plants on their planet have exceptional positive uses, there are also many horrible uses that in the wrong hands, could be disaster for the Avyloci.

Warriors

The warriors of the tribe are predominantly the ones who leave the tribe in order to find food and other supplies the Avyloci might need. All Avyloci are trained as warriors from the age of five, they attend special 'schools' of sorts where they first play games in order to improve their reflexes, judgement and other battle skills. When the young Avyloci are able to fly across the training ground without touching the floor (Usually at around ten years old), they're then deemed ready to be paired with a mentor. The elders will pair up an Apprentice with a Mentor and the pair will then be practically inseparable. An apprentice will sit beside their mentor at each meal and sleep in the same room.

Over the next five years, the mentor will train the apprentice every day and when the mentor believe's they're ready, will begin taking the apprentice out on regular hunts. After nine years, when the mentor believes they're ready, they'll undergo the ceremony in which they become full warriors. After two years they will then be eligible to have their own apprentice.

Pregnant Avyloci and the Disabled

For those who cannot fight and who aren't chosen to be Healers, they will often remain in the towers and help look after or teach the children. They will also help prepare any food that the warriors bring back as well as help with moving water and cleaning. Expecting parents and the disabled are just as highly respected within the tribe for either bearing more young, or for fighting to protect others. The disabled will often spend a lot of their time with the Elders  though they cannot be considered one of them until they reach an acceptable age. This is because the society relies on the Elders being unbiased and wise, if the Avyloci is too young it is considered that they haven't yet developed these traits.

TRIBES

The Leniik Tribe

This tribe is the furthest north of all the tribes, as such, it is a tribe used to slightly colder weather and far more wind. Because of this, the people raised in the Leniik tribe are good flyers in windy weather and often have more body mass to cope with the cold temperatures, this isn't to say they aren't still light and mobile, just a little more muscular than the other tribes.

The Autovex Tribe

The Autovex tribe is the center of all the tribes and as such, it is often used as a central hub. The people of the Autovex tribe are considered the most accepting and the most friendly of the seven tribes. This tribe is often known for its great singers that are produced here. The Autovex tribe, being the center, is often considered a good temperature most of the year though it is prone to rain as most of the planet is.

The Santis Tribe

The Santis Tribe is closest to the marshlands of Vael, as such they most often use ambush tactics and are skilled in the art of camouflage. They're also very dexterous and light, able to cling onto the thin, spindly branches of the trees in the marsh. The Santis Tribe is often considered to have the best surrounding land because it is difficult for the Rasharrn to hunt there. Unfortunately, it's also difficult for other animals live there so hunting isn't easy. Also they have many plants unique to their area so the Santis Tribe will often trade these for food and other plants.

The Venton Tribe

The Venton Tribe resides in the thickest part of the forest, the trees there grow the tallest and the largest in diameter. As a result, the Venton are known to be the most agile in flight, able to weave quickly between the many branches and trees. They often are a more cautious tribe as it is far easier for the Rasharrn to attack them from above when they land to hunt. They have very fast reflexes in order to flee or make an escape quickly if the need arises.

The Tanvos Tribe

The Tanvos lives beneath high cliffs that drop many thousands of meters into a small river at the bottom, on the other side there are many great pillars of rock. The Avyloci often come here to improve their agility without so much danger as in the Venton Tribe. It is here that the Avyloci find most of the stones or precious stones used by all the tribes. The mostly barren landscape beyond makes it a relatively simple task to search for resources while remaining safe. However, the Tanvos tribe often must trade with others for much of their herbs they use because of where they live. Luckily hunting is relatively fine on the other side of their tower which stretches back into the forest.

The Obneyis Tribe

The Obneyis tribe is situated the furthest south and is often considered a very difficult place to live, especially from a warriors perspective. There is a species of vine that thrives in the more southern regions and often grows along the tops of trees. This makes it very dangerous for groups of warriors to hunt below the treeline. The Obneyis tribe is very skilled at moving stealthily and is able to move through the vines in relative silence. They are known as the best in the art of moving in absolute silence.

The Revonbet Tribe

The Revonbet Tribe is known for haveing the most diverse selection of animal life out of all the tribes, this is geared toward more larger animals which means that the Revonbet tribe is the first to go to if the other tribes need meat. Because of this, the Revonbet tribe has the highest Rasharrn population. This means they find it increadibly difficult to gather plants from the ground and often have to trade other tribes for these nessesities.

LANGUAGE

The language of the Avyloci varies greatly as each tribe as its own unique dialect. From a young age, all Avyloci children are taught each dialect and as such, Avyloci have a natural affinity for languages. As the Avyloci don't have last names, they use language as a way to differentiate who was born in each tribe as they consider the whole tribe a family group.  An Avyloci will always speak the dialect of their own tribe even when conversing with someone of another. Because each Avyloci can easily understand other dialects, they're able to comfortably converse in their own no matter what dialect the other is speaking.
