Mandatory Questions
What about you is heroic?
Because I'm pretty logical, people tend to believe I'm very cut-throat about things, but I actually do try to help people out as much as I can. I'm just not stupid about it like Keonrain seems to get. I stick by my friends through whatever happens and I'm not afraid to fight for what needs to be fought for. I can be self-sacrificing, that's heroic right? Keon seems to think it is. But I'm only self-sacrificing when there's a valid reason for it. I'm not going to go throwing myself at death at every available opportunity.
What about you is social? What do you like about people?
Well, I guess you'd say I'm a social introvert. I enjoy hanging out with the people I trust, I like their company and can spend a pretty good amount of time around people. I just like having my own time every now and again. I've been on my own for a large block of time so I've kind of gotten used to enjoying my own company. What I like about people? Well, it depends who it is. I can't just say I like people in general because I've lost faith in humanity a few times, but the people I know are decent, I like because they're decent.
Of what benefit could you be to the current group?
I'm the one making sure they don't go gallivanting off and getting themselves killed. Dub is pretty logical too, but she isn't forceful enough. I make sure Keon knows where the line is, he can get a little overzealous about things. I tend to make sure everything is in order, I look after my own, make sure they don't get hurt and that everything runs as smoothly as it possibly can with a man-child on board (Accelerate). Sometimes I have to make the tough calls too, you can't save everyone.
Why would you choose to join the current group?
Well, I didn't want to at first. I was pretty focused on just getting through the day. But then I came up with the idea of trying to stop the apocalypse and joining the group seemed like the best way to do that. Also, Keon wasn't going to survive a day without me and he would not give up on the idea to save the others. By the time I wasn't stuck with them anymore, I'd begun to feel really protective over them. Like it was my duty to give them back what humans stole. Now, I wouldn't have it any other way.
Personal Questions
What is your real, birth name? What name do you use?
My full name is Anjay May Parumani. Before you say anything - yes, Anjay is a guys name - no, I do not give a damn. According to my father, Anjay means unbreakable, and that's what I am, whether I'm a guy or a girl. I go by Anjay or Jay. Generally I don't use my middle or last name at all if I don't need to. After all, it's not exactly like my family name means something anymore.
Do you have a nickname? What is it, and where did you get it?
My nickname is Jay, as you can probably gather. Call me Ann though, and don't expect to live long. Ace tends to call me 'Boss' a lot, though I don't really know if that counts as a nickname. Jay suits me just fine I think. Sometimes I get the nickname 'Night Wings' (No, not the DC Hero), because my wings are large enough to apparently block out the sun. (This is not true, but my wings are fairly large, even by Avylocian standards). How do you dress most of the time?I like wearing my red shirt with pale pink swirls, jeans, hip-pouch, arm band and hiking boots. I also have a pretty tattered black scarf I like to wear, an old habit I learned in the apocalypse. I also have a good canvas jacket, a pair of ski goggles and various other things in order to fully cover my body. I don't have to wear all that anymore, but I still keep it around. Just in case.
How do you "dress up?"
First there'd have to be something to dress up for. But if I did have to dress up, I'd usually try to get away with a nice pair of jeans and shirt, Mikaleus is usually the judge as to whether we're formal enough for the occasion. I try not to get humiliated by dressing up. I'd prefer something practical, dresses and high heels are not practical at all.
How do you "dress down?"
Dressing down usually means wandering around in my pajamas or something. But usually dressing down is just what I wear everyday, something comfortable, something practical. I don't want to get caught off guard, so I usually have some form of weapon on me. Though I do enjoy just wearing a jumper two sizes too big with some track pants every now and again.
What do you wear when you go to sleep?
Usually it'll be normal pajamas, they're dark blue with these lacy designs on them. They're not my first choice but they're the only ones that actually fit me properly. They would have been Dub's but she sleeps in one of those Jezzec suits, so I got them instead. I'm happy to sleep in my clothes too if needed but Keon and Mikaleus both insisted I relax more.
Do you wear any jewelry?
I wear the bands around my right arm but that's not really for jewelry purposes, it's use is to help cut off circulation if someone happens to get infected or badly wounded. Other than that, I find jewelry to be fairly pointless. It's pretty, and I will wear it if it's given to me, however on the whole I don't tend to find it incredibly practical.
In your opinion, what is your best feature? Physical feature?
Probably my hair. It's been permanently dyed with purple streaks. It happened when I found a bottle of permanent hair dye in the rubble. It was half gone and I was going to try to use it as a weapon, you know, get it in their eyes and stuff? But my brother managed to convince me to use it on myself. After he... died.... I just didn't have the heart to change it back.
Personality wise, it's probably that I've got what it takes to survive. The thing is though, I'm pretty sure living with Keon and the other seekers has made me a little softer. I can still kick some serious butt, but I'm a little less ruthless now.
Where do you live? Describe it: Is it messy, neat, avant-garde, sparse, etc.?
I live with the other seekers on the Taki'ran ship. So it's pretty high tech with all the best facilities, however, it usually looks just like a regular house shared between two girls and three guys. There's usually stuff lying all over the floor. Luckily, we have Mikaleus, he's pretty much our maid. He gets really annoyed when people don't clean up after themselves. I usually feel a bit bad for him so I try to help out when I can. What is your most prized mundane possession? Why do you value it so much?I'd have to say, my hip pouch thing. It's the only think that I've really kept besides my boots from when I used to live alone among the scores of monsters. Yeah, fun times. I don't know, it's sentimental I guess. It's always served me well, against everything that I've been through and I always wear it when I can. It's never stopped being a practical choice.
What one word best describes you?
Survivor.
Familial Questions
What was your family like?
My mothers name was Isa, my father was Oliver and I had a younger brother called Mateo. Before the apocalypse, we were a pretty normal family I guess you could say. There was school to worry about, and friends. My father usually worked late but my mother was always home with Mateo. I try not to dwell on it too much, it just makes me sad. We'd often go and visit my grandparents, aunts and uncles who all lived a few hours away, but after everything started going bad, I never saw them again.
What's the worst thing one of your siblings ever did to you?
Probably when Mateo was three or four years old, we got into an argument over something. He'd been hiding all day while my father and I foraged, he wanted to play but I told him I couldn't. We still had to do a quick scope of the area. Mateo was pretty angry about that, I guess he'd just spent too much time inside. When I got back, he was gone. My father was still out but I knew Mateo couldn't have gone with him. I panicked and nearly got caught. It turns out he was just hiding, but it was probably the worst thing he's ever done.
What's the worst thing you've done to one of your siblings?
I wasn't able to save him. It was one drop of blood, that was all it took and I lost him. I should have been able to protect him, but I failed, and I was forced to put him out myself. That's the worst thing I've ever done to my brother. I raised him, I told him stories, I made sure he always had food, even when I had to go without. Then in the end, it was my fault he died.
When's the last time you saw any member of your family? Where are they now?
Burying my little brother was the last time I saw any of my family members. I lost contact with everyone other than my immediate family once the whole end-of-the-world thing started. Everyone but my mother, father and brother. Now, my mother's long since rotted in the thousands of pieces I last saw her in. My father's lying dead in a ditch where I had to put him down after he turned. My brother is buried in the only place I could leave him without being caught.
Did you ever meet any other family members? Who were they?
Well before the world went to hell, I used to go to my grandparents place every weekend and would see my Aunties and Uncles often. Once or twice a year, we would fly to Italy to see my father's parents which I always adored doing. I had a pretty close bond with my older cousin, Leilani. We used to get into so much trouble together. But I lost contact with her after the first of the 'zombies' started running around. I don't know if any of them are still alive, I can't say I hold out much hope.
Childhood Questions
What is your first memory?
The earliest thing I can remember is making cupcakes with my mother. She would let me decorate them with edible glitter and various coloured icings. I would remember puting icing on her face or clothes and thinking it was the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life. I can remember her laughing and putting a bit on my hand, then on dad's face just before he left for work. It's a happy memory, one of the best.
What was your favorite toy?
I wasn't really into barbies or anything like that when I was little. I liked playing adventure outside with imaginary friends. Marching through the bush, pretending it was the deep thick jungle. So for one of my birthdays, I can't remember which one. My dad bought me a compass, I wasn't sure how to use it, but I'd seen it used in all the adventuring shows and thought it was great fun. I would take it everywhere with me, and when it finally broke, my dad got me a proper one. I buried it with my brother.
What was your favorite game?
While playing adventures (as I said before) with imaginary friends was one of my favourite passtimes. I always loved to play hide and seek with my friends at school and was pretty good at it to. It was never that they could never find me, I was just particularly good at knowing exactly where people wouldn't look. It was great fun and I especially loved to play it with my parents when they had the spare time. I would always win though.
Any non-family member adults stick out in your mind? Who were they, and how did you know them? Why do they stick out?
Probably my neighbour, she was an old lady, she didn't have a husband. I'm not sure what her story was, I never really asked, but I remember that I'd always "accidentally" kick my ball over the fence because when I went over to get it, she would always give me icecream. She was really nice, she'd let me pat her dog and sometimes her bird. I didn't see her as much toward the outbreak, she ended up passing away only a few weeks before it started. She was one of the lucky ones.
Who was your best friend when you were growing up?
I had two best friends, Saskia and Benedict. We met on the first day of school, Benedict accidentally spilled some of his drink on Saskia's shirt so I decided to go and help her out with cleaning off her shirt. Benedict is pretty shy so he waited outside the bathroom the entire time to make sure Saskia was alright and wasn't mad at him. We all sort of struck up a friendship and it just stuck. I don't know what happened to them, I hope they're alright wherever they are.
What is your fondest, childhood memory?
My fondest memory would probably be a trip out to the beach with Saskia and Benedict, it was just a perfect day as far as I was concerned. We went swimming, we had lunch on the beach then had icecreams. We acted like kids, laughing and playing games like tag on the sand. It was a picture perfect day and I often wish I could go back and just have that day one more time.
What is your worst childhood memory?
There are a lot of contenders for the worst day in my childhood seeing as I'm technically only a year past it (if the world was still normal, that is.) The day it happened was terrifying, my parents gathering us up and taking us away from home. I asked where we were going and they couldn't answer me. Seeing my mum getting torn apart after she sacrificed herself for my brother and I. The day my father left us and the day I had to put down my brother.
Adolescent Questions
How old were you when you went on your first date?
I never ended up going on a date in my life. At the time everything started, I was ten years old so I never really got the whole teenage experience of finding a boyfriend and all that. To be honest, I wish I did have that, because it meant everything else wouldn't have happened. Now I don't think there are many people I could be with. After all, who would understand my life?
It is common for one's view of authority to developin their adolescent years. What is your view of authority, and what event most affected it?
My view of Authority has been messed with at best. It was fine all the way up to the apocalypse, my parents were good and the adults around me were always fair. Even once the end of the world began, my mother gave her life for my brother and I. But I guess all that shattered when things really started going down. I saw adults to horrible things in the name of greed and suvival, then my dad turned into a drill sergent and ditched us eventually. Let's just say, I like people to prove their worth to me before I do anything for them.
